Labels to have more detailed information about products

Chisinau, March 16. /MOLDPRES/- Parliament approved at today's meeting new consumer protection measures, so they will have more information about the content of food products.

The draft stipulates that product labels will necessarily contain information about the presence of allergens, as well as the presence or absence of gluten in food. The country of origin or place of provenance of the primary ingredient, which is not the same as the country of origin or the stated place of provenance of the food product, shall also be indicated. The authors of the project also propose the labeling of poultry meat, pork, meat preparations or meat products, as well as consumption eggs with the statement "Fed without genetically modified organisms" or "Fed without GMOs".

Currently, the legislative initiative of a group of deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party parliamentary faction is in the parliamentary procedure, which provides for stricter regulation of the labeling of food products containing trans fatty acids. After examining both projects in the first reading, the Agriculture and Food Industry Commission proposed their merger for the second reading, considering that both initiatives make changes to the Law on consumer information on food products.
