Chisinau, 10 April /MOLDPRES/ - The increase in the overflow of water from the Novodnestrovsk reservoir (Ukraine) and the Dubasari reservoir by 770 cubic metres/second led to an increase in the level of water in the Dniester river, which accounts for 160 per cent of the norm for April. The Environment Ministry has made statements to this effect, which assessed the hydrological regime in rivers from Moldova for 10-14 April.

According to the institution, the aforementioned indexes show a normal situation for the spring period, characterized by precipitation and the melting of snow in Carpathians (Ukraine). At the same time, the overflow from the Dubasari reservoir starting from 10 April was diminished by 350 cubic metres/second (which accounts for 75 per cent of the monthly norm) and will contribute to the gradual decrease in the water level by 1-2.5 metres on the days to come.

„In the Prut, the hydrological regime is characterized by a low overflow, about 40 per cent of the norm for April, which is caused by the small overflow of water in the Costesti-Stanca reservoir, which is 35 cubic metres/second (37 per cent of the normal level). The small water overflows are triggered by the works due to be carried out at the Leova-Bumbata border crossing point,’’ the Environment Ministry said.

In the small rivers, the hydrological regime will not change essentially on this period. No dangerous hydrological phenomena are expected for the concerned period, the ministry added.
