Two employees of Medical and Social Assistance General Department detained during raids at Chisinau city hall

Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - More assets purchased from external and budgetary funds, meant for refugees from Ukraine, would have been embezzled by public people from the Medical and Social Assistance General Department of the Chisinau Municipal Council. Law-enforcers today made 24 searches at more addresses, including at the headquarters of the centre of temporary placement for refugees from Chisinau.      

According to the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), the raids took place within criminal files opened on deeds of abuse of office and embezzlement of means from foreign funds.  

CNA said that, within criminal prosecution actions and special investigation measures, law-enforcers established that the staff nominated for the work of the temporary centre, while fulfilling their job duties, systematically purloined food and non-food products (including big and small household appliances, furniture, bedclothes) in large quantities, bought with external funds for refugees.

Today, CNA officers, jointly with prosecutors, made 24 searches at more addresses, including at the centre of temporary placement for refugees from Chisinau, in its garages/warehouses, in order to detect and raise the documents, rough copies (personal notebooks, sheets, notebooks, other material information bearers), financial means got from  criminal activities. The criminal prosecution actions regarded also employees of the Medical and Social Assistance General Department of the Chisinau Municipal Council.        

Following the searches, more boxes with food products, hygiene objects and products, household appliances (microwave ovens, electric stoves, aspirators), sleeping-bags, plates and dishes and other assets, which were presumably purloined from the warehouse of the centre of temporary placement for refugees, were found at the aforementioned headquarters and at the homes of suspect people.  Hence, two employees of the Medical and Social Assistance General Department of the Chisinau Municipal Council were detained for 72 hours.
