Head of state meets Moldovans settled in Canada

Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 11 May had a meeting with Moldovans settled in Canada, the presidential press service has reported.  

„On 11 May evening, in Montreal, I had a very nice meeting with our citizens who live in Canada. I got acquainted with over 300 people, who came to Canada several decades ago or just several years ago; yet, all of them are interested in what is happening at home,’’ the head of state said.  

The community from Canada is united and involved in diverse projects – sports, cultural, on promotion of books in Romanian. In the context, President Maia Sandu awarded several honorific titles to people who had managed to achieve special performances in sport and arts and who promote the good name of Moldova.     

„We discussed a lot about the situation in Moldova, about the problems triggered by the war and the reforms we carry out, in order to turn our country into a better place for all its citizens. I witnessed a full support of the local community for the project on Moldova’s accession to EU,’’ the president stressed.   

„I was happy with the achievements of each person, of those who managed to make career in state’s institutions and of those who have successful businesses. I managed to pay a short visit to a cake shop of Ecaterina Limon-Maritzoi – a shop where one can find many goodies, including pies like in Moldova. Our courageous and diligent people deserve having a European future at home. Therefore, at the European Moldova Assembly, due on 21 May, no matter whether we are at home or abroad, we will everybody say that our way leads to EU, to peace and well-being,’’ the head of state also said.
