Iasi – Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline to be able to carry natural gas in both directions

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Iasi–Ungheni–Chisinau gas pipeline will carry natural gas in both directions. The works which are to be carried out in this respect are stipulated in a Moldovan-Romanian inter-governmental Memorandum, approved by the cabinet of Romania on 17 May. At the same time, decision-makers are to consider possibility to enhance the capacity of transport and extension of the gas pipeline to the Chisinau Belt Road. The works are to be finished till the end of 2031.       

In the electric energy sector, the memorandum sees the interconnection of the electro-energy systems of Romania and Moldova through the construction of the 400-kV overhead power line Suceava-Balti; carrying out of the communication interconnection on the existing power line of 110 kV Husi-Cioara, as well as the possibility to carry out a joint study, in order to identify the best solutions to construct the three inter-connection power line of 400 kV between Romania and Moldova.     

Also, decision-makers will examine possibility to integrate the state enterprise Moldelectrica into the balancing market managed by the Transelectrica electricity transmission system operator of Romania and to integrate the centralized electric energy markets of Moldova with the ones organized by the electric energy market operator from Romania, Opcom stock company.  

The Romanian cabinet on 17 May approved a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Romania and Moldova on continuing the implementation of the projects needed for the interconnection of the natural gas and electric energy networks from the two states.
