Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with the director general of the European Commission’s Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Gert Jan Koopman, on a working visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

The officials discussed the progress made by Moldova in the key sectors regarded by those nine recommendations of the European Commission concerning the getting of the status of country candidate for accession to EU.

Moldova’s citizens have chosen a European future at home and clearly stated this at the European Moldova Assembly from 21 May. The European Commission and the EU member states help Moldova edify a safe and prosperous life for all citizens, through backing the institutions which ensure the public order and the national economy. Moldova relies, in continuation, on additional assistance on behalf of the European Union, in order to strengthen the public institutions.

On 24 June, the European Union said that it allocated eight million euros, which will help entrepreneurs from Moldova develop their business and open new jobs. The money will come in form of non-refundable funds for the co-financing of seven programmes for supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises, implemented by the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development. Also, due to Moldova’s recent acceptance in the European Interconnection Mechanism, the country will be able to get financing for the development of infrastructure in the sectors of transports, energy and digital one.
