Moldovan president says everything must be done to take care of environment where children are to live

Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, on the World Environment Day, annually marked on 5 June, discussed the importance of the environment for the daily life, as well as the problems faced by the country discussed at the conference titled, Environmental challenges and sustainable development, organized by the Environment Ministry, the presidential press service has reported.       

„The water which we drink, the air which we breath, the soils on which we grow our food - our sound and qualitative life depends on them. Even if Moldova is a small country and we cannot turn the scale when it comes to the climate changes in the world, we can and must do our utmost to take care of our environment where we live and in which our children will live,’’ the Moldovan president said.     

Among the environmental problems which should be overcome as soon as possible, the head of state enumerated the unauthorized dumps, which need to be liquidated and the waste should be managed through recycling and energy use; residual waters, which must be purified through the use of modern technologies, including at enterprises. The president reminded that, in this respect, Moldova benefited from the support of foreign partners, in order to enforce technologies at European standards, to diminish the pollution.      

The head of state referred to the most ambitious initiative of greening the country – the national programme on afforestation, which will bring long-term benefits for attenuating the droughts, balancing the content of water and enhancing the soils’ fertility.

In the end, Maia Sandu urged the citizens to take care of the environment in Moldova – we should plant forests, correctly manage the waste and reduce the air’s pollution.
