Chisinau, June 7. /MOLDPRES/- On the sidelines of the working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu had several meetings with European officials, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The visit to Brussels takes place before the transmission by June 21 of the updated information for the European Commission Report on the enlargement policy. Popescu had several important meetings, including with Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert Jan Koopman, with whom the discussions initiated in Chisinau continued on the significant progress made by our country in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission.
Also in Brussels, the Moldovan official met with Secretary-General of the European Commission Ilze Juhansone, Secretary-General of the EU Council Thérèse Blanchet, as well as with Chief of Staff for European Commission President Bjoern Seibert.
"We thanked the European officials for the assistance package announced by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her meeting with President Maia Sandu. This package includes the gradual liberalization of roaming tariffs, support for strengthening the resilience of our country, including by launching the new EU Partnership Mission in the presence of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell," said Popescu.
In discussions with European officials Popescu found that although there are still actions to be taken, the Republic of Moldova has a high degree of progress in implementing all nine recommendations of the European Commission.
"At the end of the visit, I participated in a public event organized by the Center for European Policy in which I spoke about the importance of boosting the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, in the context in which our country is making significant progress in the implementation of the nine recommendations. I mentioned this to several heads of diplomatic missions in Brussels, with whom I had a productive discussion about the Republic of Moldova", he said.
