Moldovan PM meets U.S. Congressional delegation

Chisinau, 4 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean today met a delegation of the Armed Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives: Doug Lamborn, Nancy Mace and Seth Moulton, on an official visit to Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The official appreciated the firm support of the USA, including through development projects, backing the national economy and the irreversible path of European integration of our country.

"We appreciate that this support has increased since last February, after Russia launched the brutal war against our Ukrainian friends. We are grateful to the United States for the significant role it plays in supporting our young democracy", said Recean.

In the context of the security situation in the region, the officials referred to hybrid threats, including attempts to destabilize state institutions, the authorities' effort to take prompt and effective actions to maintain peace and stability in the Republic of Moldova. Recean spoke to the American delegation about the review of the national security strategy and the Government's responsibility to continue the reform and modernization agenda of the country for the benefit of the citizens.

He also welcomed the U.S. Government's recent support for the National Army, which includes modern equipment and weaponry, meaning better training conditions for military staff in exercises, training and peacekeeping missions.

The American delegation representatives said that the U.S. Congress supports the reform efforts in Moldova, and the United States will continue to support a safe and democratic Moldova on European integration.

Also, as part of the Government program, the delegation members visited the exhibition Bessarabians in Gulag, as a sign of respect for the families of citizens deported during the Soviet occupation.
