Electoral period for general local elections of November 5 starts today

Chisinau, Aug. 7 /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that the electoral period for the general local elections of November 5 starts today.

According to the Electoral Code, the electoral period lasts until the day when the election results are confirmed by the competent bodies, but it cannot be longer than 120 days.

"During this period, the normative acts following the electoral law will be adjusted and approved, the hierarchically lower electoral bodies will be established, the means necessary for the conduct of the polls will be provided, trainings will be organized for electoral officials and information activities for voters and other electoral subjects, candidates for the positions will be nominated and registered, electoral lists and ballots prepared, as well as other electoral materials", a CEC press release reads.

The Commission approved the Decision on setting the date of the general local elections on July 4, and it enters into force today. Also, the CEC last week approved the calendar schedule for organizing and conducting the general local elections, which will be submitted for information and implementation to the local and central public authorities, the political parties represented in the Parliament, as well as the electoral bodies, after their establishment.

The electoral campaign for the general local elections will start on October 6.
