898 mayors, 11,058 local councilors to be elected at general local elections

Chisinau, Aug. 8 /MOLDPRES/- 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors will be elected at the local elections on November 5.

According to the Central Electoral Commission, of the total number of local councilors, 9,972 are village and city councilors, and 1,086 are district/municipal.

According to the legal provisions, the number of councilor mandates in the local councils to be assigned following the general local elections was established based on the number of inhabitants of the administrative-territorial units as of January 1, 2023, based on data from the State Population Register presented by the Public Services Agency.

9,972 local councilor mandates will be assigned for all localities in the country.

At the 2019 general local elections, a total of 11,580 councilors were elected in local councils, of which 1,108 were level II councilors and 10,472 level I councillors.
