Moldovan parliament speaker says sees stronger, safer, more confident Moldova, after 32 years of independence

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, along with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean today morning participated in the events dedicated to the Republic of Moldova’s Independence Day, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

The officials laid flowers at the Grieving Mother Monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex and the Monument to Stephen the Great in the centre of the Moldovan capital. Subsequently, they took part in a festive ceremony dedicated to the Independence Day, held on the Great National Assembly Square.     

MPs and cabinet members, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova participated in the solemnity as well.  

In his message, addressed on the occasion of the Independence Day, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said: ‘’Thirty years following the Independence, I see a stronger, safer, more confident Moldova and which knows what it wants. Congratulations, Republic of Moldova! Congratulations, dear Moldovans!’’

In the context of the 32nd anniversary of the Independence, albums, books, periodical publications and booklets were displayed at a topic-related exhibition staged at the parliament’s headquarters. The exhibits provide an ample outlook on the important moments from the political life of the 1989-1991 years, of the national liberation movement and the getting of the independence of the Republic of Moldova. Among the publications exhibited, there are the speech given by the academician, senior MP Ion Borsevici at the opening of the first session of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic on 17 April 1990, as well as the copy of the first number of the Literature and Art newspaper in the Romanian language, published on 15 June 1989.  

At the same time, today evening, the parliament building will be illuminated in the colours of the national flag.

On 27 August, the country marks the Independence Day National Holiday. As many as 287 lawmakers of the parliament signed the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova on this day in 1991.
