Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) has started the distribution of a consignment of 5,000 laptops in general education institutions of Moldova. The devices will reach 903 primary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and will replace the old technology.

In the selection of the beneficiary institutions, decision-makers took into account the number of pupils from the institution and the ratio ‘’new technical devices per one pupil.’’  The number of laptops due to reach the institutions varies between 3 and 24 units.

The equipment was purchased within the project, Education Reform in Moldova (PRIM), implemented by MEC, with the financial support of the World Bank.

„A reform in education means the education system’s adaptation to the new tendencies and needs. The ministry will continue working out the best policies, to invest in young people and in education institutions, in order to educate generations of pupils able to cope with all challenges. These laptops will surely contribute to the carrying out of a more attractive education process for pupils and teachers of Moldova,’’ said the MEC’s secretary general, Valentina Olaru, during the activity on distributing the new equipment.

In 2023, MEC also provided 1,480 laptops to schools, with the support of the PRIM project and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), 340 computers donated by South Korea and 2,174 tablets, donated by South Korea, China and Israel.

The general education institutions of Moldova had 49,250 computer technology units (computers, laptops, tablets) in all on 1 August 223.
