Biggest national hackathon held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 9 September /MOLDPRES/ - The biggest hackathon from Moldova , Deeptech GigaHack, has brought together, for the first time ever, professionals from the information technologies sector, entrepreneurs and researchers from Moldova and Romania. During two days, the participants, grouped in 40 teams, will compete to identify innovating solutions to the following sectors: cyber security, artificial intelligence, Internet of objects and automatic learning, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.     

At the event, Prime Minister Dorin Recean stressed that the hackathon gave opportunity to generate innovations due to improve the quality of life and promote the economic development of Moldova. According to the PM, the young people presently have access to all instruments and information needed and have a string of opportunities to innovate and produce.

At the same time, the prime minister noted that Moldova had already achieved results in more key fields, emphasizing also the two basic industries with outstanding performances: information technology and wine industry, with national companies listed at international exchanges. On the next period, the government is set to more closely cooperate with entrepreneurs and innovators, in order to identify new solutions to complex and large-scale problems, including on the dimension of the creative industries.   

„Moldova is a destination or innovation and creativity. We are looking for innovating solutions for the monitoring of woods, efficient management of the household waste and we are sure that you can help us in identifying them. You should know that all the world is proud of the innovations from our country and no matter what you do in Moldova, this can turn into a business at the world level,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.  

For his part, Ambassador of the United States Kent Logsdon said that his country would stay with Moldova, in order to strengthen its position on the world’s map of innovation and technology, through backing programmes in the information technologies sector.

Deeptech GigaHack is organized by Technovator and Digital Park, under the aegis of the Economic Development and Digitalization Ministry, with the support of the USAID-financed Moldova Future Technologies Activity Project, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the investment fund Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF).
