EU invests 13 million euros to help Moldova overcome energy crisis

Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union invests 13 million euros, to help Moldova overcome the energy crisis and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gas. The money is provided through the Addressing the Impact of the Energy Crisis in Moldova Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).   

Within the same Programme, actions of support for Moldova were carried out, to overcome the energy crisis from the last two years, through the creation of the system of compensations for 800,000 energy vulnerable families.

According to the Energy Ministry, in the long term, the Programme backed the transposition of the most important European directives in the energy sector and implemented pilot programmes on cutting the consumption of energy. Subsequently, they will be taken over by the Agency for Energy Efficiency.    

Also, the programme includes a component of green energy, through the setting of photovoltaic panels with an overall capacity of 1 MW at five district hospitals from Floresti, Nisporeni, Stefan Voda and Calarasi. They will annually produce about 1.2 GWh of green electric energy and will yearly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 585 tons of CO2eq.
