Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ - Settlements of Moldova can compete for getting the title, Youth Capital 2024. The contest today was launched by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC) and the National Youth Agency (ANT). The files can be submitted till 31 October.

Youth Capital is a national programme, the goal of which is to back the local public authorities in the development of efficient youth policies locally. During one year, the youth activities of the local and central public authorities, civil society’s organizations and international organizations are concentrated in the winner settlement.

The MEC’s secretary general, Sergiu Gurin, has said that, to implement the programme, MEC would allocate about one million lei (50,000 euros), with the help of which the winner local public authority will be able to implement various programmes for youth.

ANT director Ion Donea said the files on participation in the programme can be submitted by the local public authorities of the towns, cities and villages of Moldova, except for the Chisinau city. The Chisinau municipality cannot apply, by definition, as the contest is dedicated to other local public authorities, which have fewer opportunities to invest in the youth sector. At the same time, the settlements which held the title of Youth Capital in the last three years cannot participate in the contest this year.

The files submitted to the contest will be assessed by a special commission, which will nominate the winner.

The first edition of the contest was organized in 2011. In 2020 and 2021, the Youth Capital title was got by the Sipoteni commune, central Calarasi district, and in 2022, it was held by the Stefan Voda town. This year, the Ungheni city won the title.
