September 16 to be declared day of national mourning, in memory of first head of state Mircea Snegur

Chisinau, 14 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- September 16 will be declared a day of national mourning, in commemoration of the first head of state, Mircea Snegur. President Maia Sandu made the statement, and conveyed a message of condolences to the family, relatives and all those who knew Mircea Snegur.

"I learned with deep sadness that Mircea Snegur, the first president of the Republic of Moldova, died this night. He lived in historical times and had an essential role in promoting the independence, freedom and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova", said Maia Sandu.

The official sent sincere condolences to the family, relatives and everyone who knew Mircea Snegur.

The president also said that September 16 will be declared a day of national mourning, in commemoration of the first head of state, Mircea Snegur.

The first president of the Republic of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, died on Wednesday evening at 83 years old.
