IFAD announces launch of large-scale project for agricultural development in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) yesterday presented the concept of a new project for investment in agriculture. Unlike other similar projects, this one is meant to ensure efficiency and sustainability in the use of financial sources, or it provides that during the next six years, two value chains with potential, which involve mostly small and medium producers, to be supported multilaterally, starting with the production stage and ending with the marketing of the products, including export.

Particular attention in future activities will be paid to the development of the associative sector, product associations and entrepreneurs' cooperatives. "The project also foresees the implementation of different forms and work procedures to ensure te economic sustainability of agricultural producers under the conditions of climate change. This project represents a continuation of IFAD's commitment to support the communities in the country, especially the most vulnerable social layers in creating favorable living and working conditions", the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) said.

Through this project, IFAD is committed to providing financial and technical support to boost the development of the agricultural sector in disadvantaged regions and to strengthen agricultural infrastructure. 

The estimated value of the project is more than 34 million dollars and will be implemented for 6-7 years. The project will be coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Ministry of Environment and implemented by the IFAD Programme Implementation Unit in Moldova.

IFAD is an international organization for the implementation of projects aimed at sustainable agricultural development in disadvantaged rural communities around the world. The fund provides financing and technical assistance to help farmers improve their livelihoods and help increase food security globally.
