Chisinau, 22 September /MOLDPRES/ - The member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Iulian Muntean, today informed that he would submit an application on resignation from office, after information according to which he would be recorded in a criminal file on corruption had appeared in the public space.

„In order not to compromise the work of CSM, I think that I will submit an application on resignation at the parliament’s secretariat,’’ Muntean noted.

Muntean also said that he ‘’submitted the clean criminal record’’, to participate in the contest. „I filled in the questionnaire on the ethic integrity. Moreover, I signed and I explicitly gave my agreement on the processing of the personal data, having nothing to hide. The answer given by me was YES to the question No 1 ‘’Have you ever been party in civil, contraventional or criminal file?’’ from the Questionnaire, with the indication of all existing causes and which were contained in databases. I was informed by lawyer about this case that it had been quashed and should not be mentioned anywhere. The case must be forgotten,’’ Muntean said.

The parliament appointed Iulian Muntean as CSM member on 7 September. Subsequently, information according to which Muntean would be accused in a criminal file on corruption appeared in the public space. In these circumstances, the justice minister said that the ‘’withdrawal or resignation’’ of Iulian Muntean ‘’is necessary’’ and the CSM members issued a statement, thereby saying that ‘’the best solution for Iulian Muntean would be the submission of the application on resignation.’’
