Chisinau, 26 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- A new holiday will be set up in Moldova - Ambulance Day, which will be marked annually on October 2. The decision was taken today by the Government, at the initiative of the Ministry of Health.

The need to establish this holiday derives from the essential role that the emergency medical assistance service has in reducing mortality and improving the health of the population in our country. The Ministry of Health said that it will contribute to increasing the degree of responsibility of citizens, both to protect their own lives and those around them.

This October marks 20 years since the establishment of the emergency medical assistance service, the coordination of which is ensured by the National Center for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance.

Currently, around 5,600 employees are active in the pre-hospital emergency medical assistance service, who intervene annually in around 1 million requests. The service is also essential in exceptional cases, such as pandemics, earthquakes, floods, refugee crises or war.

Ambulance Day is marked in several European countries, including Romania, by organizing events with the participation of the population, medical institutions, authorities and NGOs.
