Chisinau, 28 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- It is vital to get the political decision to open the European Union accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine as soon as possible. Romanian Senate President Nicolae Ciucă made the statement at the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Forum. The official said that Romania will further provide active support to Moldova, including for the continuation of its "irreversible" European path, AGERPRES has reported.

"Romania will further provide active support to Moldova, including for the continuation of its irreversible European path. It is vital to get the political decision to open the European Union accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine as soon as possible. It is very clear: a safer Ukraine, a safer Republic of Moldova bring more security to Romania," Ciucă said.

He added that an important component of resilience is the ability to resist disinformation activities. "A joint effort of national and international institutions, as well as of citizens, is necessary to counteract the increasingly harmful effects of disinformation, which endanger the security of states. In conclusion, it is clear that resilience is essential for states and international institutions. Only by working together can we overcome these difficult times and protect our citizens," he said.

European Parliament Presidet Roberta Metsola voiced hope that the EU will open accession negotiations with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova by the end of the year, asking that the hopes of these candidate countries not be disappointed.

Last June Moldova received the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union.
