Moldovan deputy parliament speaker says Moldova strengthens resilience of state' institutions, despite modest resources

Chisinau, 13 October /MOLDPRES/ - „Despite our modest resources, we strengthen the resilience of the state’s institutions and make sure that Moldova contributes, with its share, to supporting Ukraine.’’ Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi has made statements to this effect at the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE), the parliament’s communication and public relations department reported.    

Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi gave a speech during a discussion on the  subject, Council of Europe’s role in prevention of conflicts, reestablishment of international institutions’ reliability and promotion of global peace. In the context, the deputy speaker reiterated that Ukraine needed support. ‘’We must back Ukraine till the moment of its victory, as only the victory of Ukraine can ensure us a true, sustainable peace in our region. Thus, I urge you to provide Ukraine with support, to the democracy, rule of law state, not as long as it is necessary, but till the moment of Ukraine’s victory,’’ Mihail Popsoi noted.   

The deputy parliament speaker also said that Moldova’s perception of Russia had changed. ‘’It is good that we have got to the point when there are no longer excuses; when it is clear for everybody what difficult situation this region has faced for decades. I must recognizes the fact that we, in Moldova, have also lost much time and as late as now we have reached this collective wisdom to identify Putin’s Russia as the principal threat to the national security of our country within the National Security Strategy, which is presently discussed in Moldova,’’ Mihail Popsoi said.      

On 9-13 October, a delegation of Moldova’s parliament participated in the autumn session of PACE. The delegation is made up of the head of the national delegation to PACE, deputy head of the parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration Ion Groza, Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi, the deputy head of the commission for human rights and inter-ethnic relations, Natalia Davidovici and the secretary of the parliament’s commission for national security, defence and public order, Constantin Staris.
