Chisinau, Oct. 13 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal participated in a videoconference format in signing ceremony of an agreement on joint control at Novosavitskoe-Cuciurgan railway crossing point on the territory of Ukraine to facilitate the traffic of goods between countries, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

“It is an important step to increase processing capacity at our common border. It's another sign of solidarity that we help businessmen from Ukraine to transit goods through our country to Romania and the countries of the European Union. I want to thank the teams that worked on this agreement, a concrete action through which we demonstrate that we can help the neighboring country", said Recean.

Shmyhal referred to the favorable impact for the diversification of bilateral trade and further strengthening the solidarity towards the European Union.

"I thank the Government of the Republic of Moldova for firm support of Ukraine. Today we are taking the next concrete step to facilitate rail traffic. The railway is of strategic importance for our bilateral cooperation. Ukraine is an important economic partner of the Republic of Moldova. We have all the possibilities to diversify trade routes to increase exports and ensure the well-being of both states, despite the brutal aggression of the Russian Federation", the Ukrainian Prime Minister said.

They also discussed cooperation in the infrastructure, energy, agriculture and trade, including in the context of the understandings agreed during the meeting of the co-chairs of the Moldovan-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, on September 29, in Odesa.

The officials agreed to sign by late 2023 the Protocols for organization of joint control in 7 other Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points.

The protocol on joint control at the crossing point for railway traffic Novosaviţkoe - Cuciurgan was signed in Palanca by the management of the Customs Service and the General Inspectorate of Border Police at the quadrilateral meeting of the heads of the Moldovan-Ukrainian customs and border authorities.

It should be noted that in 2022, exports to the neighboring country increased 8 times, compared to the similar period last year, and the growth trend is maintained this year as well.
