CEC: Over 60 thousand candidates registered in general local elections of November 5

Chisinau, Oct. 17 /MOLDPRES/-  More than 60 thousand candidates were registered in the general local elections of November 5, 2023.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), over 3,900 candidates were registered for the 898 positions of mayor, and for the 11,058 councilor mandates in local councils - over 56,000 people.

At the same time, for the position of mayor in the administrative-territorial units of the first level, out of a total of about 3,870 people - over 3,580 (92%) are from the political parties and the electoral bloc, and about 290 (8%) are independent candidates.

More than 45,940 people have registered for the position of councilor in the first-level constituencies, of which more than 45,200 (98%) are nominated by political parties and the electoral bloc, and about 730 (2%) are independent candidates. At the same time, for the position of councilor in the second-level constituencies (district, municipal), out of the total of about 10,500 registered candidates – over 10,420 (99%) are on the lists submitted by political parties and the electoral bloc, and about 80 (1%) are independent candidates.

27 candidates of political parties and the electoral bloc were registered for Chisinau mayor and for Bălți mayor - 18 candidates, of which 13 were nominated by political parties and the electoral bloc, and five are independent.

The CEC announces it will update and present the final information on the profile of candidates for elective positions in the general local elections of November 5, 2023, after analyzing all the decisions of lower electoral bodies regarding the candidate registration.
