Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - The United Kingdom will provide nine million pounds for the M-GROW project, managed by the World Bank and the Finance Ministry of Moldova. Statements to this effect were made today, in the context of the holding of the Moldova Support Platform.

This assistance will contribute to the yielding of tangible results for citizens in such sectors as poverty reduction, infrastructure, ensuring the energy security, gender equality and resilience to climate changes. The contribution will allow the Moldovan government to consolidate the dialogue with the European Union and ‘’to become more resistant to interferences on behalf of Russia and the actors controlled by the Kremlin.’’

„On the background of the challenges, which require immediate actions on behalf of Moldova, the United Kingdom welcomes the focusing of the Moldova Support Platform on the medium-term development needs. Moldova has critical needs to be fulfilled, in order to enhance its level of resilience and this summit, just as the earlier meetings proved it, plays an important role in generating fit solutions for the agenda of reforms and the European integration way of the country,’’ reads a press release of the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Chisinau.

„In this way, we convey a clear-cut message – we are resolute and united in making sure that Moldova can successfully resist the efforts of Russia and its representatives to destroy its democracy and steal its sovereignty. We are happy to cooperate with Moldova, along with other donors, to this end,’’ Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Moldova Steven Fisher said.

The M-GROW Fund will represent a coordinated mechanism of financing and support, which will help Moldova make essential and necessary investments, enhance its competitiveness and strengthen the efforts towards a green, resilient, inclusive and European development.

The United Kingdom’s contribution to the goals of the Moldova Support Platform is multilateral. The United Kingdom co-chairs, along with Romania, the working group against corruption. The UK responded also to other challenges identified by the Platform. Besides the 12.5 million pounds provided in 2022, another 10.5 million pounds is provided in 2023 as humanitarian assistance to back the Ukrainian refugees and the vulnerable families from Moldova. And another three million pounds is provided through the Fund for Good Governance for technical assistance which backs the efforts of ensuring the energy, cyber security, the integrity and fight against corruption.
