Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reached an agreement on financing. The completion of the programme’s assessment will allow Moldova accessing about 92 million dollars till the end of this year, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

At a news conference held after the cabinet meeting, the spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, said that ‘’the agreement on financing is another positive signal for the economic improvement, for investors and the businesses from Moldova.’’

Moldova will also benefit from a new facility: the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) worth 169 million dollars for the next 22 months. It will back the authorities’ efforts in approaching the climate challenges, the transition to the green energy and the sustainable development.

Moldova has managed to maintain a generally solid performance, with the observance of the quantitative performance criteria and significant progress in the structural reforms, especially in the field of fiscal governance and supervising the financial sector. Also, the IMI’s evaluation concludes that the country undertook measures for strengthening the anticorruption institutions.

At the same time, the institutions improved the discipline of carrying out the activity programmes and this contributed to the diminution of the impact of the crises on the economic growth.

As for the fiscal policy, Moldova gave priority to the support measures, in order to cope with the social and economic impact of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and the additional budget will contribute to the maintaining of the fiscal deficit within the limits agreed upon.

The conclusions and the decision of the International Monetary Fund were announced, after the IMF mission led by Clara Mira had held discussions with Moldova’s authorities in Chisinau during 25 September – 15 October 2023.
