Former Prosecutor General of Moldova to ask Superior Council of Prosecutors to revise his case

Chisinau, 24 October /MOLDPRES/- The former Prosecutor General, Alexandr Stoianoglo, today provided details, after the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had given its ruling on his case. Stoianoglo informed that he would ask the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) to revise his case.

The former prosecutor general says that there is another complaint at ECHR which concerns him, on his illegal arrest and criminal prosecution. Stoianoglo said that, given that more amendments had been made to the legislation, he would present more solutions along with his defender for the enforcement of the ruling already issued by ECHR.

„They should remedy their blunder, revise again this issue, give again  Stoianoglo possibility for the correct consideration of this complaint. He should be given possibility to come up with evidence, as presently there is no other way to remedy the mistake. This issue will surely be put on the table of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers,’’ the lawyer of Stoianoglo, Victor Munteanu, said.

Stoianoglo specified that his re-establishment to office depended on the Presidency, noting that he would appeal the decree by President Maia Sandu in court.

„I appealed the decision issued by the president in administrative way. We will soon appeal to court with the demand for the cancellation of the president’s decree. As for the reestablishment to office, this depends on Mrs. President. I think that this is impossible in the current situation. I think that the decisions issued on me are illegal,’’ Stoianoglo said.

ECHR has recently published a ruling, in which it found out, in the case of former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, the ‘’infringement of the right of access to court – impossibility for the Prosecutor General to appeal his suspension, prompted by the criminal procedures initiated against him.’’

Alexandr Stoianoglo took over the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office in November 2019 and the criminal prosecution started against him in October 2021. The suspended Prosecutor General, Alexandr Stoianoglo, was dismissed two years after he had been detained.
