Moldovan policemen detect illegally held arms at 242 citizens

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - Policeman have detected illegally held arms in 242 citizens. At the same time, another 42 people delivered the arms voluntarily.  

In some cases, law-enforcers from Criuleni carried out searches at the home of a man aged 50 years from the Izbiste settlement, who was illegally holding arms. As a result, a hand-made hunting gun, eight cartridges of different caliber and a   Makarov pistol were raised. At the same time, equipment for the maintenance and use of fire guns were detected and raised. Heard by policemen, the man was not able to explain the origin of the arms and ammunitions, as well as the goal of their holding. The person is to be sanctioned for the preservation of the arms non-registered in the way established.          

After being raised, the arm and the ammunition were submitted to the Technical, Crime and Legal Expertise Centre for the carrying out of the ballistic expertise, in order to establish the origin and the potential danger.   

Under the legislation, private people and legal entities who hold arms are obliged to come to the police bodies, in the area of which they have their residence or headquarters, in order to verify the fulfillment of the conditions necessary for the holding or wearing and use of arms, for the issuance of the proper documents, in the conditions of the law.   

At the same time, the person who voluntarily delivers the fire arm, ammunitions or explosives, which he/she preserved illegally, is exempted from criminal or contravention responsibility.   

According to the Interior Ministry, over 60,000 people hold about 75,000 lethal and non-lethal arms in Moldova.
