Moldovan PM meets European Commission's vice president, EU commissioner in Brussels

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - The progress made by Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union, the present regional situation and the consolidation of Moldova’s capacities to cope with the security threats have been discussed at meetings of Prime Minister Dorin Recean with European Commission’s Vice President, European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The PM appreciated the constant assistance of the European Union for Moldova’s democratic transformation, carrying out of the reforms for the benefit of the citizens and advancement on the European agenda. In the context, Prime Minister Dorin Recean referred to the effort of implementation by Moldova of those nine recommendations of the European Commission. He stressed that the Moldovan authorities continued to work, in order to give the European Commission a solid basis for the recommendation of the launch of the negotiations in the end of this year.     

„Moldova’s future is in the European Union and the solidarity proved by EU is an extra proof that our country is part of the European family. We rely on your support and we commit to advance, in continuation, in the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations. The opening of the negotiations on accession in the end of this year is a strategic priority for the government I lead,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.  

In discussions, the officials emphasized the importance of the cooperation in the security and defence sector. The sides also touched upon the needs of assistance for strengthening Moldova’s resilience to the current crises and the effects related to them.
