Chisinau, Oct. 26 /MOLDPRES/- The reform agenda in the environment sector, measures to boost economy using green technology, as well as the challenges related to climate change were discussed at meetings between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for Environment and Wopke Hoekstra, European Commissioner for Climate Action.

According to the government's communication and protocol department, the premier said that the environment reform and climate actions is one of the priorities of Moldova - European Union Association Program, with the national goal of unconditionally reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030.

"Moldova is determined to honor its environmental and climate actions commitments and is coming up with economic modernization and digitization measures. Natural resources must be used efficiently, sustainable activities in industry and transport must be ensured and pollution must be reduced", said Recean.

He pointed out that the government ensures the reform of the regulatory framework in the field of the environment, in accordance with the principles of the EU Green Deal. The strategic document envisages the economic growth of Europe with the help of green technology and aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

"We are aware of the difficulties of implementing the environment agenda in the crisis circumstances that the entire world is facing. On the other hand, the increase in the prices of natural gas and oil products offers a unique opportunity to speed up the sustainable decarbonization of the economy", Recean said.
