GENERAL LOCAL ELECTIONS-2023 in Moldova: Synthesis of 27 October

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ -The electoral agenda of the 27 October day included a news conference held by the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the office of Chisinau general mayor, Lilian Carp.   

Lilian Carp referred to the major challenges in terms of traffic and infrastructure from the Chisinau municipality and unveiled his and PAS team’s vision to improve the urban mobility and the comfort of life of the Moldovan capital’s residents.  

Also today, the president of the Political Party, For People Nature and Animals (PONA), Ion Dron, gave a news conference titled, Besides money, Victoriabank makes also politics with the intimidation of the parties inconvenient to the regime. Ion Dron said that, ‘’after ten days of waiting, Victoriabank, with no reason, at the mercy of somebody, without informing the reasons, refused to open a bank account and a card account for the PONA Party.’’     

The president of the National Alternative Movement Party (MAN), Ion Ceban, held a news conference, during which the presented the programme on management in the field of arranging green areas and water basins. ‘’We are set to rehabilitate three big and important parks from the capital. We will clean to lakes, modernize the beaches, arrange the cliffs and the leisure areas according to the examples of the zones from Vadul lui Voda, La Izvor Park and Roses Valley Park,’’ Ion Ceban said.    

Also today at 12:00, the candidate for office of mayor of the Chisinau city on behalf of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (DA), Victor Chironda, waited for the MAN president, Ion Ceban, for discussions nearby the Triumph Arch from the capital, as he had earlier informed that he would daily do. Ion Ceban did come today either.   

The leader of the Chance Party, Alexei Lungu, today made an assessment of the searches carried out by the police on 26 October at homes of party’s activists and in the party’s offices. ‘’Another ‘’masterpiece’’ of the operative work of our brave policemen was launched. Following a long inquiry, they discovered that our party seems to ‘’finance’’ certain political activities,’’ Lungu said.      

The electoral agenda of 27 October also included a flashmob organized by the candidate for the position of Chisinau general mayor, Andrei Donica, on the subject, Ceban is accused of extortion of one million dollars from constructors.  

At a today’s meeting, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) approved more decisions regarding the organization and carrying out of the general local elections due on 5 November 2023.  

CEC considered an application by INTELLECT GROUP Ltd for the authorization of the conducting of opinion polls on voters’ political preferences. The last findings of opinion polls, authorized by CEC on the electoral period, can be published two days ahead of the day of the elections, i. e. on 2 November 2023.  

At the same time, the Commission members confirmed the person in charge of the finances (treasurer) on behalf of the political party, Modern Democratic Party of Moldova, for the period of the electoral campaign for the general local elections due on 5 November 2023. Six political parties out of those 36 ones, which registered in the electoral race, failed to submit the proper documents for the confirmation of treasurers for the period of the electoral campaign. In the context, CEC points to the fact that the reports on the financing of the electoral campaign must be signed by the head of the formation and the treasurer confirmed under the CEC decision and the non-submission of the reports or their delayed submission is an infringement which can be sanctioned including under the Contravention Code.  

Also, CEC approved a message of public interest (video clip), elaborated within the information campaign for this ballot.  

At a request by the Foreign Capital Enterprise REFORMA ART Ltd, CEC confirmed a journalist as holder of the www.jurnal.md mass media portal for the coverage and monitoring of the elections.

Another subject on the agenda regarded the change of the nominal composition of the electoral council of the Criuleni district electoral constituency.
