Moldova relies on Bulgaria's support for starting negotiations with European Commission

Chisinau, Oct. 31 /MOLDPRES/-  Speaker Igor Grosu had a meeting today with Vice President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, who is visiting Moldova. The discussions focused on the bilateral agenda, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

"Iliana Iotova's visit is further proof we have reliable friends and neighbors who want us to be part of the European family. We are counting on Bulgaria's support for starting negotiations with the European Commission. We have strong historical and cultural ties with Bulgaria," Grosu said.

The Bulgarian official said that soon the Bulgarian Parliament will identify the new composition of the parliamentary friendship group with the Chisinau legislature. This will enable wider use of the potential for cooperation between the Parliaments of the two countries in various fields, including commercial, economic, educational and cultural.

The agenda of discussions included the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova and educational institutions with Bulgarian language teaching. In recent years, several projects have been carried out in this regard, including the opening of the Vasil Levski Youth Center, the construction of a new building for the Children's Art School in Taraclia region etc.

The officials also approached the strengthening economic relations between the two countries, Bulgaria being one of Moldova's main trade partners. "Furthermore, we advocate for drawing Bulgarian investments and I was happy to hear that the Bulgarian side is willing to invest in Moldova," he said.
