Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan-Romanian have launched the anti-contraband campaign, Law is Good. The campaign is carried out by the Customs Service, Border Police, State Fiscal Service of Moldova and the Romanian Customs Authority, Border Police, Romanian Police and the Association for Combating the Illicit Traffic (ACTIV).

The campaign will be held on both banks of the Prut river, in Romania and Moldova. The message is promoted on panels on streets in Bucharest, the border regions from the southern and eastern parts of Romania, in Chisinau and the Moldovan districts, which are the worst hit by the illicit trade, as well as on TV channels from Moldova and Romania.

„The discovery of cases of contraband with tobacco products is one of the priorities of the Customs Service, given that as a result of the contraband products introduced in the country and put into circulation, no taxes are paid to the state budget, which means less money in the state budget and for the vital things, such as health, education, social assistance and infrastructure. Since the beginning of this year, the Customs Service has prevented 65 cases of illicit carriage of tobacco products. We reconfirm the commitment in the counteraction of the illicit traffic of cigarettes and in this respect, we will continue the cooperation with the national and international institutions,’’ the deputy director of Moldova’s Customs Service, Nicolae Vutcariov, said.

The campaign, Law is Good, is aimed at enhancing the degree of awareness of the negative effects of the contraband with cigarettes: fueling of the organized crime, inflicting damages to the state budget, ceasing of the economic development of the border settlements. The campaign will be carried out during one month.
