Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - This is a day of great importance for Moldova, which marks a new stage in the country’s relation with the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has conveyed a message to this effect, in the context of the European Commission’s recommendation to start the negotiations on accession with Moldova.

The official noted that the Commission’s opinion was a strong sign of support for the country’s European goal. At the same time, the deputy PM stressed that the decision represented recognition of the substantial progress Moldova had made since the getting of the status of country candidate for EU in June 2022. ‘’It is about the successful implementation of the EU’s recommendations, continuous reforms, which contributed to the development of the rule of law state and strengthening of the administrative capacities, energy independence, an active foreign policy with a high degree of aligning with the EU’s messages and many others,’’ Nicu Popescu said.

The Moldovan diplomacy head emphasized that, starting from today, the work with the European Union member states, with the European Commission continued, in order to prepare Moldova for negotiations. ‘’The working groups have been already set up and we are in the middle of the process of self-evaluation of the national legislation’s compliance with the European acquis,’’ the official noted.

The European Commission today recommended that the European Union member countries initiate the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to EU. The final decision on the starting of the negotiations with Moldova will be taken by the member states at the meeting of the European Council due on 14-15 December this year.
