Moldovan foreign minister: France - trustworthy ally, reliable friend of Moldova

Chisinau, Nov. 11 /MOLDPRES/- The head of Moldovan diplomacy, Nicu Popescu, had an excellent visit to Paris, and conveyed sincere thanks of our country and President of Moldova Maia Sandu to French President Emmanuel Macron and International Monetary Fund Director Kristalina Georgieva for the unconditional support to overcome the crises we faced and for the significant contribution to the modernization and progress of our country, the MAEIE press service has reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu had meetings with Catherine Colonna, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France and Laurence Boone, Secretary of State for European Affairs. They discussed Moldova's progress that led to the European Commission's recommendation for the opening of negotiations with our country. The Moldovan official thanked for the continuous support in our path towards the accession to the European Union and addressed topics on the bilateral agenda, including the mutual recognition of driving licenses and the signing of a social protection agreement. Popescu also emphasized the importance of the rapid ratification of the Moldovan-French agreement to avoid double taxation.
"In discussions with Minister of Defense Sebastian Lecornu and his advisers, we expressed our appreciation for the French support in reforming the national army of the Republic of Moldova and managing security threats. We thanked them for the delivery of the first batch of assistance in the strengthening our country's defense capabilities, and we discussed the preparation for signing a cooperation agreement between France and Moldova in the defense sector. France is a trustworthy ally and a reliable friend of Moldova", Popescu said.
