Chisinau, Dec. 8 /MOLDPRES/- On Thursday, President Maia Sandu greeted several fruit growers from the country, gathered at a conference organized by Moldova Fruct, dedicated to Moldovan fruits, the presidential press service has reported.

Maia Sandu said that horticulture is becoming a promising branch of our agriculture, and Moldovan fruits are appreciated in more and more countries, exports increase and so the incomes collected by domestic producers also increase.

At the same time, the head of state also emphasized that the EU market has become more accessible for Moldovan products thanks to the free trade agreement, and last year, export quotas were eliminated for seven products from Moldova, including apples, plums and cherries. This decision allowed agricultural producers to sell more on the European market in 2023: 2,600 tons of cherries, 10 thousand tons of apples, 55 thousand tons of plums - the Republic of Moldova is about to become the third largest exporter of plums in world.

"We promote Moldovan products both in the west and in the east, where quality is valued and where contracts are respected. Just like winegrowers and winemakers, fruit producers become more competitive, stronger and manage to conquer stable markets, where blackmail has no place", the head of state said.

"I urged the fruit producers and exporters to cooperate more closely with each other, to preserve the flavor of our fruits and to support carrying out the European integration project of the country, which represents a chance for prosperity for all", Maia Sandu said.
