Chisinau, Dec. 12 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean had a meeting today with President of the Football Association of Moldova Leonid Oleinicenco and general secretary Serghei Butelschi, the government's communication department has reported.

The Prime Minister once again congratulated the FMF representatives for this year's extraordinary progress of the football team, which was one step away from a historic qualification for the European Championship in Germany in 2024.

In this context, Oleinicenco presented the main projects carried out by the Moldovan football forum. It is about the projects and programs to popularize football, investments in infrastructure through the construction of football fields throughout the country, with the support of FIFA and UEFA, as well as the Football in Schools program, carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Education. 343 schools and over 43 thousand children from all over the country already benefit from this program, in which over 600 sports teachers have been trained.

A special topic of the discussion was the development of Moldovan football and sports, in the context of the latest trends at the European and world level. In particular, it is about attracting and diversifying income in sports. In this context, the Football Association is ready to share its own experience and to promote the success stories of the region.

The Prime Minister appreciated the FMF's conduct of football competitions on the left bank of the Dniester, which represents a model of unity for all citizens of the Republic of Moldova and brings concrete benefits through the successful evolution of the multiple national champions in European competitions. At the same time, Dorin Recean urged the football forum to exercise its influence in order to avoid, in the future, incidents regarding journalists' access to international football events in Tiraspol.

At the end, it was discussed about the need to build a national stadium in the Republic of Moldova, a project that requires major investments. Thus, based on a pre-feasibility study carried out by the FMF, the best solutions for the construction of the stadium, including finding a land and drawing investments should be identified together with the government.
