Moldovan government to provide single allowances to artistic institutions due to work in villages

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - The young librarians, curators or artists, who graduated from higher artistic education institutions, and will choose to work within local public authorities, will benefit from a single allowance worth 120,000 lei starting from 2024. The graduates of the vocational education institutions will also receive support on behalf of the state worth 90,000 lei. The provision included in the Law on culture was approved by the cabinet of ministers today, the government’s communication department has reported.     

„Through this amendment, we are set to create conditions for a uniform geographical distribution of the qualified staff both in the rural settlements of Moldova and in the district or town cultural organizations. Thus, the culture sector will be able to better meet the needs of the residents of these regions,’’ the state secretary of the Culture Ministry, Andrei Chistol, said.       

According to the latest statistics, there are 1,300 territorial public libraries, 1,194 community centres and 132 museums in Moldova. Most  employees of these institutions are older than 55 years and the share of those with higher education is continuously decreasing.

Also today, the cabinet approved the draft law on the national culture fund – a new mechanism of financial support of the independent and private cultural sector in the field of arts and creative industries. This year, a budget worth almost 30 million lei is planned to be allocated. The main task of the national culture fund is to finance the projects which support the contemporary creation and the turning to account of the heritage, as well as the contribution to the good understanding of the artistic phenomena and ensuring an as wide as possible access of the public to culture. The way of financing from the fund’s sources will be  approved by the government and its means will be used to back cultural and editorial projects.
