Cabinet to take over control over assets of exploitation of gas, crude oil deposits from southern Moldova

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan government informs about the initiation of the process of taking over the control over the deposits of gas from Victorovca, southern Cantemir district, and of crude oil ones from Valeni, Cahul district, the government’s communication department has reported.   

This decision comes following the expiration of the licence of exploitation of the natural deposits initially provided in 1995 to the Redeco Ltd company from the USA and subsequently taken over the Valiexchimp” Ltd company in 2007. Concomitantly, the assessment of the performances of these companies revealed more major problems, which show a defective management and a non-sustainable approaching in the management of the natural resources.      

„It is essential that we recognize that these resources belong to the state and our efforts will be focused on an efficient exploitation, with a strong emphasis on the minimizing of the impact on the environment and maximizing of the national profit,’’ the director general of the Public Property Agency (APP), Roman Cojuhari, said.     

Therefore, the government transmits the direct responsibilities for the management of these resources to APP. In the context, decision-makers come up with a draft on the amendment of the law, so that the state enterprise, EHGeoM Hydro-Geological Expedition from Moldova, is given the right to exploit underground deposits.
