Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - Seventy-five years ago, on 10 December 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a landmark document in the history of human rights. To mark this anniversary, the UN Human Rights Office invited two local artists to create murals celebrating human rights. One mural was painted in Dubasari, on the left bank of the Nistru/Dniester River, by artist Alexandra Novac, and the other in Chisinau, on the right bank, by artist Radu Dumbravă.

Although geographically separated, the murals are linked, as are the characters and messages depicted in them. Both murals are meant to remind us that we live in a world where every person has equal value, regardless of where they are.

The murals are painted on the walls of two NGOs on both sides of the Dniester. In Chisinau it is the organisation "AVE-Copiii" located on Constantin Stere Street 1, and in Dubasari the organisation “Accolada” located on Lenin Street 110.

”Children must be safe and have everything for their development, as well as for the cultivation of high, beautiful moral values. Here the child is safe. They draw everything in positive colours. He is relaxed and creates." Alexandra Novac, artist from the left bank of the Dniester river, said.

For his part, Radu Dumbrava, artist from the right bank of the Dniester river, said: ‘’Starting from the idea that every person has the right to speak out. Respectively, children are the most outspoken compared to adults in some cases. The little girl who is painted like she is climbing the fence and painting, shows courage. She's showing a manifesto. That she is claiming her rights and the right to be in communication, in unity with other children.’’

According to Bea Ferenci, Head of the UN Human Rights Office,   "The murals, although in geographically different locations, are nevertheless interconnected. They exemplify a world that fully respects, protects and fulfils human rights. It is what every person, regardless of where they live, regardless of age, regardless of ability or disability, regardless of status or origin, should benefit from the full set of human rights."

UN Human Rights, present in Moldova since 2008, provides technical advice to state institutions, and conducts capacity-building for a range of state actors, civil society organizations and national human rights institutions to strengthen the protection, respect, fulfillment and mainstreaming of human rights for all, including most marginalized, in the country. UN Human Rights also works closely with the UN Country Team and other actors to integrate a human rights-based approach into their work to support sustainable peace and inclusive development in Moldova.
