Three new monuments to be built in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 Dec. /MOLDPRES/-On Wednesday, the cabinet supported several projects proposed by the Ministry of Culture, at the request of local public authorities, through which several monuments will be built, aimed at promoting the culture of memory in our country.

According to the Ministry of Culture, based on the decision of the Otaci Council, a monument dedicated to the clergy from Soroca County, who were deported by the Soviet regime to the Gulag will be built upon entering the town. The names of the martyred priests will be inlaid on a crucifix, which will serve as a place of silence in memory of all the victims of Stalinist deportations and repressions.

Telenești Council got the green light for the establishment of the Alley of notorious personalities in the locality. The personalities who will be part of the Alley will be selected by a special working group established for this purpose.

The third project aims at building the bust of the Gagauz poet, writer Gavriil Gaidarji, which is to be installed in the square of the House of Culture in the village of Carbalia, Vulcănești district. The request of the local public authorities comes in the context of the 85th anniversary of the birth of this notorious representative of the Gagauz culture.

"Today, more than ever, we need models, evidence of lessons learned, the promotion of the culture of memory", Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said. He mentioned that any project of this kind, supported at the request of local public authorities by the ministry and the Executive, is an investment in the future, a proof of respect and attitude, a link between generations.
