Project on investments for effective agriculture launched in Chisinau

Chisinau, Dec. 19 /MOLDPRES/- Fifty-five million dollars will be invested in the development of the agricultural sector in the Republic of Moldova, until 2029, within the project Moldova Agriculture Governance, Growth and Resilience Investment (AGGRI), launched today in Chisinau.

"This project is a new beginning for agriculture. Financial resources will contribute to improving the quality of agricultural services, increasing the resilience and productivity of agricultural enterprises. Vulnerability to drought will also be reduced by expanding the availability of irrigation services to farmers and ensuring effective response mechanisms to emerging crises. Two sectors will be prioritized - animal husbandry and irrigation, it means strong agriculture, villages with people provided with jobs and well-being", Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea said.

According to the project, 21 million dollars will be offered to farmers as grants, to boost initiatives to promote and develop the livestock and horticultural sector. Another 25 million dollars will be directed to the rehabilitation of primary and secondary irrigation infrastructure.

At the same time, about 6.5 million are planned to strengthen the capacities of the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture and the National Agency for Food Safety. The establishment of the Agricultural Consultancy Center and Veterinary Excellence Centers will also be supported. At the same time, about 2.5 million dollars will be used for project management.

The AGGRI project will be financed under a Loan Agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
