Moldovan government approves completing national system for monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions

Chisinau, 17 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- The sustainable energy promotion and environment protection are the main goals of the project on completing the national system for monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions, approved today by the government.

According to the government's communication department, the document sees updating of the Environment Agency's powers on development of the national greenhouse gas inventory and improvement of the reporting mechanism, in line with international agreements.

"This project provides for the updating of the reporting requirements of policies and measures to mitigate climate change, forecasts of greenhouse gas emissions, in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement", Minister of Environment Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov said.

According to the commitments, assumed as a result of the accession in 2009 to the Energy Community Treaty, the Republic of Moldova must report annually to the Secretariat of the Energy Community the final data of the national inventory, to promote sustainable, competitive and safe energy in order to achieve the main strategic goals of sustainable development on long term.
