Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) today informed that it had taken possession of data pointing to the re-launch of the campaigns of misinformation and manipulation, in order to destabilize the situation in the Moldovan society and the regional security.

According to SIS, the targets of the new phase of the campaign of misinformation and manipulation are: compromising of Moldova’s diplomatic relations, especially the Moldovan-Ukrainian relations; reduction of the confidence and of the intensity of the cooperation at all levels between the authorities from Moldova and Ukraine; reduction of the inter-operability of ensuring the regional security existing between the security, defence and law and order bodies of Moldova and Ukraine.

According to the quoted source, a group of people prepares the launch in the public space of a narrative, thereby accusing the state’s institutions of actions aimed against citizens of Ukraine, who hold diverse offices in Ukrainian governmental institutions. ‘’Among the members of the concerned group, there are also former intelligence officers, citizens of Moldova, who, in various periods, were dismissed for corruptible actions, purloining of public money, abuse of power, sequestrations of people, illegal interactions with foreign special services. Also, to give a pseudo-reliability to their actions, there are plans to publish an alleged copy of a document, part of a criminal file managed by one of the specialized prosecutor’s offices,’’ the SIS’ press release reads.

„We reiterate that the goal of the misinformation and manipulation campaign is to effect the relations between the authorities of Moldova and Ukraine and diminish the intensity of cooperation at all levels. Such actions fit into the set of instruments of the hybrid war waged by Russia against Moldova, having in the concerned aspect a targeted character, of discrediting the efforts of the national authorities and of each Moldova’s citizen for the preservation of the peace and security in the region,’’ the communiqué also reads.

The Intelligence and Security Service attracts attention to the fact that the frequency and the amplitude of such actions ‘’will be enhanced during the 2024-2025 years, being targeted the processes of reform, the electoral ones which will be held in Moldova, but especially the process of negotiations on accession to EU.’’
