Moldova, United Kingdom sign agreement on air services

Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova and the United Kingdom have signed an Agreement on air services, which allows all air companies from the two states making direct flights between any airport of the signatory countries. 

The Agreement was signed by British State Secretary for Transport Mark Harper and Moldovan Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu. The document represents a bilateral legal framework with high standards, which regulates the air transport services and stimulates the development of the air traffic between the two countries.     

The document was worked out as a result of the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, preserving the connectivity and backing the mutually advantageous development of the commercial and economic relations between the two countries.

State Secretary for Transport of the United Kingdom Mark Harper said the agreement signed would provide choice and quality to the British consumers and businesses, which will facilitate the trade, tourism and will generate new opportunities for business. ‘’The aviation sector from the United Kingdom is one of the most competitive in the world, so that it is wonderful for us to sign an Agreement on air services with our partners from Moldova. This will allow us enhance the commercial opportunities with an important partner and strengthen the economy of both states,’’ Mark Harper said.     

The bilateral agreement on air services brings reciprocal benefits and provides for fair competition between the sides, which allows the air companies establish the frequency and capacity of the international air transport they provide and eventually increase the number of flights between the United Kingdom and Moldova. The agreement also covers other subjects, such as the taxes, rights of passengers, safety and security. Both countries agreed on supporting the need to protect the environment through the promotion of the sustainable development of the aviation sector.
