Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today paid a working visit to Bucharest, where he met Foreign Affairs Minister of Romania Luminita Odobescu, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

The officials discussed the importance of the bilateral relations. Minister Nicu Popescu firmly expressed confidence that these ties would continue developing in the same sustained pace.

„I availed myself of this occasion to thank my Romanian counterpart for the unconditional support provided to Moldova on our European integration way, including in the process of getting the positive vote for the starting of the negotiations on accession.

Due to the openness and the constant dialogue, our partnership with Romania is the strongest one in the last three decades. We reviewed the concrete projects backed by Romania, carried out so far, including the construction of bridges and gas pipelines, renovation of hundreds of kindergartens and schools, full removal of the roaming tariffs between Moldova and Romania and numerous other initiatives for the benefit of all our citizens. Romania has been and will remain a constant supporter of Moldova!

In Bucharest, I was pleased to discuss with the foreign policy adviser of President Klaus Iohannis, Bogdan Aurescu, a reliable friend of Moldova. In several weeks, Mr. Aurescu will take over the office of judge at the United Nations International Court of Justice; on this occasion, I wished him success and a productive mandate at this stage of his career.

I also had a meeting with Secretary General of Romania’s Government Mircea Abrudean, with whom I discussed the projects financed by Romania in our country.

Bucharest will stay our principal supporter in the process of accession to the European Union and I am sure that we will continue cooperating equally closely, in order to ensure Moldova’s as soon as possible integration in the great family of the European Union, with Romania!’’
