More than 3,800 cases suspect of violence against child reported in Moldova in first half of current academic year

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - Employees of the educational system, in the first half of the 2023-2024 academic year, reported 3,821 cases suspect of violence against child, which took place in the family, at school, on street and in other places from the community. The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) today unveiled data to this effect, in the context of the marking of the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace.     

According to MEC, in most cases, the target of the violence represented boys, with 2,701 such situations signaled. Girls were affected in another 1,120 cases. As for the type of abuse, decision-makers notified 1,657 situations of physical violence, another 782 – emotional violence, 488 cases of bullying and 858 – situations of neglect.  

In 2024, MEC is set to consolidate the national network of anti-bullying trainers, with 40 national trainers and 1,000 teachers due to be trained to this end. Also, an ample information campaign will be carried out among pupils and parents as regards the prevention of bullying and more amendments will be made to the Education Code, so that the teachers are more protected at the education institutions.
