European Commission proposes to extend suspension of customs duties for imports from Moldova for another year

Chisinau, 31 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- European Commission proposes to extend for one more year the suspension of all customs duties for imports from the Republic of Moldova. Specifically, exports of seven categories of agricultural products from Moldova - tomatoes, garlic, grapes, apples, cherries, plums and grape juice - will continue to be fully liberalized without tariff restrictions.

The proposal is to be examined by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

"Moldova's exports have suffered from Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, as they often relied on transit through Ukrainian territory and Ukrainian infrastructure. The EU supported Moldova's efforts to reorient exports. Moldovan exports to the EU increased from 1.8 billion euros in 2021 to 2.6 billion euros in 2022," the European Commission said in a press release.

The current export regime entered into force on 25 July 2022 and expires on 24 July 2024.
