Chisinau, Feb. 1 /MOLDPRES/- EcoContact association, which in 2024 is developing a concept on promoting a topic related to environment protection every month, announces that the proposed topic for February is - Food waste leads to hunger and climate change.

About 30% of all products bought by Moldovans end up in the trash or are wasted. Most of them are food products. Food waste costs the Republic of Moldova more than 15.3 billion lei annually.

If in the villages part of the unused food products are used for animal feed, in the cities everything ends up in the garbage.

Almost 59 million tons of food is wasted in the EU every year. This means 131 kg of waste per person in a year.
