Chinese New Year marked at Ion Creanga National Library for Children

Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Ion Creanga National Library for Children, in partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Chisinau, today organized a festivity dedicated to the Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival.     

Attending the event were: Mrs. Xu Feng, the wife China’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Yan Wenbin, adviser  Wang Lyuxin and other representatives of China’s Embassy, Director of the Confucius Institute at the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) Wang Yifeng, professors, teachers, parents and children. Also, young people, students and pupils who visited China participated in the event as well. The festivity comprised a varied artistic schedule, creation workshops, book exhibitions, craftsmanship objects, donation of China’s Embassy. A special moment of the event was the launch of an exhibition of drawings titled, The Colours of China, in which the authors of the works, pupils of the N. Moisei District School of Fine Arts from Telenesti and its branches participated.    

In her speech, the adviser of China’s Embassy in Chisinau, Wang Lyuxin, said that the Spring Festival was one of the most important events in China. ‘’Starting from 2008, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China along with the Ion Creanga National Library for Children have been organizing activities of celebrating the Chinese New Year. I want to convey everybody congratulations on the occasion of the Chinese New Year. In China, the Spring Festival symbolizes the joy, the reunification of the family and the hope. It is celebrated all over the world. Thus, the Spring Festival has become a holiday of the entire world. The 2024 year is the Year of Wood Dragon in China, which has   a specific significance for the Chinese people. The wood symbolizes vitality and dynamic growth and the Dragon – a symbol of good times, peace and calm in the country, luck and prosperity,’’ Wang Lyuxin said.      

For her part, the director of the Confucius Institute at ULIM, Wang Yifeng, said that he was quite happy to participate, in order to celebrate the Spring Festival together. He thanked the library for the organization of this event each year, stressing, at the same time, that the Spring was a season of hope.     

According to the traditional Chinese calendar, one year is regarded as a period in which the moon makes 12 rotations around the Earth. The habit of the Celebration of the New Year dates back from about 4,000 years ago, but it does not have a fixed date. The date is changed each year during 21 January – 20 February. In the tenth century, B.C., the Chinese called the New Year, the Spring Festival. It is regarded as the greatest traditional holiday of the Chinese nation, just as the Christmas, Curban at other nations. This year, the Chinese New Year is marked on 10 February. The 2024 year is the Year of Dragon – a symbol of great importance for the Chinese cosmology. The Dragon is the symbol of manhood, success, wisdom. This is a good year to start new projects, make positive changes. It is recommended for one to make donations or charity acts, as they will bring one blessings and gratitude. The festive activities last two weeks and end on the 15th day, with the Lantern Festival.
